NMZ WELCOME JINX + NEW SINGLES 'Blade of Grass / Loveless'

California’s JINX returns with two new songs, showcasing a more nuanced and textured approach without losing their edge. Still loud and driving, the band now weaves in more tones and atmosphere, landing somewhere between the raw punch of Dinosaur Jr. and the dreamy distortion of My Bloody Valentine.

Jinx formed in the summer of 2018 in Van Nuys, CA with the release of their first cassette, In Your Mind. Since then, the band has chased a blurred vision of fuzz and light, existing under a kaleidoscope of hardcore and alternative rock. Along the way, Jinx has shared stages with a wide range of artists including Fiddlehead, Narrow Head, Modern Color, and Fury.

After several singles and releases, the band established a strong presence in the local scene and the broader alternative music world. As members balanced life and other touring commitments, Jinx’s activity gradually slowed on the surface. Behind the scenes, however, the band was evolving creatively and interpersonally. Now re-emerging with renewed sound, image, and even lineup, Jinx continues to draw from their alternative hardcore roots while infusing richer ambient textures and tones into their latest songs.

""Blade of Grass" is about the uncontrollable feeling of wanting to hide away. Being present and digging my own head out of the sand is something I have struggled with for a very long while. The itching feeling of needing to show face, paralleled with the crawling feeling of wanting to stay on the sidelines, is enough to split a brain in two.

"Loveless" is about naturally falling out of love. Brian spent a lot of time narrowing down the correct guitar parts that match the internal conflict, but also the hope and freedom that comes with honesty.

Coming back to Max (Photographic Memory) to record always feels full circle. Every time we start cooking together, it feels like we’ve all somehow grown in one way or another. He takes the time to really hone in on the colors we want in our songs and knows how to translate our ideas from my apartment to noise on the stereo. I really feel like we are becoming ourselves and allowing ourselves to expand while staying true to our roots."
